I’m sure you remember the good old days when we was told that carbohydrates were an important part of a healthy diet.
Which is why it’s not surprising that, after 50+ years of pushing carbs, nearly 10% of the US population has diabetes!
With millions more suffering from carb-induced inflammation, weight issues, and living what I call "The Zombie Life."
Where every day is dead, dull, and feeling like an eternal groundhog’s day because your brain and body aren’t working properly. make matters worse, prescription medications are at an all-time high!
It sickens me how often I see doctors prescribing pills instead of fixing the root cause of the problem. (Many times because they’re paid by the insurance companies to do it!)
But if you want to live a healthier life without the meds, you need to fix the root cause that got you there in the first place!
The Health Coach will help you!
Which is why we will promote our health coach program to our patients. I believe it’s the most comprehensive and advanced service for all you needs.
Obesity is the major health problem worldwide and has now become one of the leading causes of death internationally in both adults and children, and its prevalence is continually increasing worldwide.
Internationally, obesity kills more people than car crashes, terror attacks, and Alzheimer's combined. Changes in dietary and physical activity patterns along with more calories being consumed than expended have resulted in overweight and obese populations, with 1.9 billion adults reported as overweight in 2016, of which 650 million were obese (WHO, 2018b).
Adult obesity prevalence between 2015-2016 was 39.8% overall with adults aged 40-59 showing the highest prevalence at 42.8% (Hales, Carroll, Fryer and Ogden, 2017). Currently, the United States ranks as the 36th most obese country in the world (World Facts, 2018). The Annual Report, State of Obesity 2018: Better Policies for a Healthier America revealed that seven states have adult obesity rates for the first time to be at or above 35%, an increase from five states in 2016. Each year, 2.8 million deaths can be attributed to overweight and obesity; 44% of diabetes incidence, 23% of ischemic heart disease and up to 41% of certain cancers (WHO, 2018b).
Globally, prevalence of overweight and obesity has tripled since 1975 (WHO, 2018b). Today, 65% of U.S. adults are considered overweight or obese and one of three children (IOM, 2012). Almost half of the U.S population is trying to lose weight (Snook, Hansen and Duke, 2017), and more people are in the process of dieting than at any time in our history, yet obesity is at epidemic proportions.
Health conditions linked to overweight and obesity (NIH, 2018):
About Weight Management For decades the focus has been on weight loss with dieting at the forefront of interventions to achieve this end. Consequently, consumers have been faced with hundreds of diets, meal plans, programs, and the like from which to determine the "best diet". However, new research suggests that it is not the particular diet that is important to successful weight loss and maintenance, but adherence to the diet is key to achieving weight loss goals (Gibson and Sainsbury, 2017).
The U.S. National Weight Control Registry is tracking over 10,000 individuals that have successfully lost weight and kept it off in order to identify key factors to maintaining a healthy weight. Currently the following behaviors or factors have been identified:
95% of individuals modified their food intake in some way with most maintaining a low calorie, low fat diet
94% increased physical activity with most reporting walking
90% exercise 1hr per day
78% eat breakfast every day
75% weigh once a week
62% limit TV watching to 10 hours a week
It's important to be cognizant of common challenges clients can experience as they try to achieve their weight loss goals, and be prepared to be patient, to offer unbiased assistance, encouragement, and evidence-based weight management intervention guidance. Guiding clients to drill down to personal factors that contribute to their weight, as well as potential adherence obstacles, is an important first step in helping them set weight loss goals and to be engaged in a realistic weight loss and maintenance plan.
Five primary factors contribute to one's being overweight. These include:
