Shenque - Navel

There is a very important spot on our body: the "navel," which is the scar left as a reminder of our separation from our mother. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this spot is called the "Shenque Acupoint." According to TCM theory, the Shenque Acupoint has significant functions and effects:

Regulating Qi and Blood:

The Shenque Acupoint is a vital node in the body's meridian system. By regulating the flow of Qi and blood, it promotes smooth circulation and maintains the body's healthy balance.

Boosting Immunity:

Massaging or stimulating the Shenque Acupoint through acupuncture can activate the immune system, enhancing the body's resistance and helping to prevent and treat illnesses such as colds.

Regulating the Endocrine System:

Stimulating the Shenque Acupoint can help balance the endocrine system, adjust hormone levels, and improve issues such as menstrual irregularities and menopausal syndromes.

Relieving Pain:

The Shenque Acupoint has pain-relieving properties. Acupuncture or massage at this point can alleviate various types of pain, including headaches, abdominal pain, and joint pain.

Balancing Emotions:

Stimulating the Shenque Acupoint promotes the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine, which can help reduce anxiety, alleviate depression, and improve emotional well-being.

In Summary:

The Shenque Acupoint is considered a key point in TCM, playing an important role in regulating physiological functions, promoting health, and maintaining balance in the body.

The herbal navel patch is formulated based on renowned physicians' prescriptions, using pure herbal extracts. It employs the latest TDDS (Transdermal Drug Delivery System) technology to deliver the medicinal effects through acupoint absorption.

Ingredients:
Panax Notoginseng, Mugwort, Salvia Miltiorrhiza, Sichuan Pepper, Rhubarb, Cinnamon, Astragalus, Cassia Seed, Licorice, Lotus Leaf, Alisma, Poria, Tangerine Peel, and Honey.

Efficacy:

  • Relieves constipation and promotes bowel movements.
  • Strengthens the spleen and dispels dampness.
  • Boosts Qi and improves blood circulation.
Suitable for individuals with suboptimal health, such as those experiencing spleen and stomach imbalances, slow metabolism, and simple obesity.

Fourfold Actions Make Belly Slimming Easy:

  1. Nourishment: Herbal particles replenish skin vitality.
  2. Firming: Thermal energy tightens skin and promotes nutrient synthesis.
  3. Internal Fat Breakdown: Heat dissolves visceral fat in the abdominal area.
  4. External Shaping: Lifts and tightens skin, leaving it elastic and smooth.

How to Use:

  1. Prepare: Open the bag and take out one patch.
  2. Peel the Back Plastic Cover: Expose the herbal paste by removing the plastic backing.
  3. Remove the Cloth Cover: Gently peel off the cloth cover from the herbal paste.
  4. Stick to the Belly Button: Align the patch and stick it directly on your belly button. Press firmly to ensure it adheres well.
  5. Seal the Edges: Remove the blue strips on the sides to ensure the patch is waterproof and stays secure.
  6. Finish the Setup: Remove the plastic cover on the front of the patch for the final step. ( d

 Duration:
Leave the patch on for 6 to 8 hours. Experimental studies suggest this is the optimal time frame for effective results.

Note:
Use daily or as recommended, and always apply to clean, dry skin.

Five Primary Factors

Evidence-based Weight Loss program

Evidence-based Weight Loss program

1. Environment

Available food types, fast food consumption, processed food ingredients, portion sizes, food advertising, lack of physical education in schools, at work and home, modes of transportation,

2. Family history

Obesity tends to run in families. However, children with no prior family history of obesity are increasingly becoming overweight and/or obese. Some socioeconomic factors that are associated with obesity and overweight are lower socioeconomic means (low food quality), unemployment, and ethnicity (Akil & Ahmad, 2011).

3. Genetics

Obesity-related genes do not mean that one is destined to be obese, but there is a tendency for higher risk. However, there are rare genetic disorders that do directly cause obesity, such as both Bardet Biedl and Prader-Willi syndromes (Research Chair in Obesity, n.d.).

4. Metabolism

Mechanisms that regulate satiety and hunger are being studied further to determine a consensus about the actual effects on weight. While there is such a thing as slow or low metabolism, it is rare, and usually not what causes one to be overweight or obese (Hensrud, Mayo Clinic, 2015).

5. Entrenched behaviors or habits

Snacking at certain times, eating to relieve stress, eating when depressed, eating in a hurry, and overeating all typically contribute to the consumption of empty, added calories.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2018b) suggest using the following 5-Step guide when assisting those who want to start losing weight. This guide aligns perfectly with the use of motivational interviewing within NSHC's context of health coaching.

Evidence-based Weight Loss program

Evidence-based Weight Loss program

Evidence-based Weight Loss program

Our weight loss program is a three-pronged approach that is recommended when assisting individuals to achieve weight loss/maintenance goals (National Institutes of Health, (NIH), 2000).

This approach includes:

• Assessment

• Management

• Behavior Therapy

Assessment :

A client's measurements and co-morbidities serve as the baseline from which to measure weight loss and weight maintenance goal achievement. There are four primary elements of the initial weight assessment. These are:

• Readiness to lose

• Height and weight

• Body Mass Index

• Waist circumference

• Co-morbidity risk

1. Readiness to lose/Height and weight

We have Readiness for Change Tool(s) as one way to assess one's readiness to lose.  Client's "confidence level” to lose and the “importance" that he or she places on weight loss are critical factors that will help to determine this. The initial weight assessment should also include:

 • Reasons and motivation for weight loss

• Previous weight loss attempts

• Family and social support, particular challenges faced

• Attitudes about adjusting food intake and physical activity.

2. Height and Weight Measurements

If a client has scales that are accurate, have the client weigh first thing in the morning, after urinating, before eating, and only in very light clothing/undergarments with no shoes. Scales should be calibrated for accuracy and should be placed on a level non-carpeted surface.

3. Body Mass Index (BMI)

BMI is a formula used to indicate an optimal weight. It's a simple index of relative weight to height that is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults, regardless of gender. It is defined as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height (WHO, 2018b).

WHO defines overweight as having a BMI ≥ 25 and obese when the BMI ≥ 30.

  • If BMI is under 25, determine what is important to the client about weight loss and follow his/her lead. Recommend periodic weighing.
  • Assess co-morbidities and the client's desire to lose weight when the BMI ≥ 25 and the waist circumference is:
  • Females: ≥ 88cm or 35 inches
  • Males: ≥ 102cm or 40 inches

NIH/NHLBI Classification of Overweight and Obesity by BMI

Underweight 18.5

Normal 18.5 - 24.9

Overweight 25 - 29.9

Obesity

1. 30 - 34.9

2. 35 - 39.9

Extreme Obesity

3. ≥ 40

Because BMI is more often used as a measure of obesity rather than undesirable weight, it can be misleading. BMI doesn't take into account distribution of body fat. For example, two men weigh 180 lbs. One is 5'3" tall and the other is 6' tall. One has a "pot belly" with thin arms and legs, while the taller one has an acceptable waist measurement. Let's look at the role of waist circumference.

4. Waist Circumference

There is a direct correlation with the amount of visceral fat in relation to the development of chronic conditions. Those with increased waist circumference (men >102cm or 40 inches and women with >88cm or 35 inches) have an increased risk of developing a chronic condition, such as coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and/or increased cholesterol. Waist circumference is considered a more accurate measure of undesirable health risk.

The simplest way to measure the waistline is to take a tape measure and put it around the waistline at its smallest part, usually just above navel.

High Risk: Women: >35 inches; Men: >40 inches

5. Co-Morbidity Risk

Assess present conditions and history, as well as family history. A 5% - 10% weight loss can reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes and should be encouraged for all overweight/obese clients (Wing, Espeland, Clark, Hazuda, Knowler, Pownall, Unick, Wadden and Wagenknecht, 2016).
